Canine Good Citizen Prep (CGC)
This course is for dogs 1 year or older that have had several hours of group training in good social and obedience manners, but need polishing of those skills prior to taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Owners learn to become responsible dog owners and take the AKC pledge.
Prerequisites: S.T.A.R. Puppy, Advanced Puppy, & Advanced Puppy II classes or equivalent puppy classes elsewhere
CGC Testing:
We offer the test for the regular Canine Good Citizen (CGC) every quarter and sometimes during our Show & Gos. This test is open to the public. Check our Calendar of Events each month for test dates and times. All dogs, purebred and mixed, are eligible to earn this title that indicates the dog has good social manners. The cost is $20 cash. Be sure to bring your dog’s grooming brush and use a regular snap or buckle collar. Leash must be nylon or leather. NO retractable leashes, chain or prong collars are permitted.
What will be covered in this course:
Obedience Skills: Sit, Down, Loose Leash Walking, Come, Leave It and Distance Stay.
Greeting: No Jumping Up, Accepting Petting and being Groomed by an unfamiliar person.
Plus Reaction to Another Dog, Walking Through a Crowd and Supervised Separation
Working around distractions (people, objects, sounds)
Polite Manners Going Through Doors

CGCA & CGCU Prep
If you are working towards the advanced CGC award/titles CGCA (Community) or the CGCU (Urban) AND your dog has met the requirements by AKC (click on link below) you may join this group. The testing for the CGCA & CGCU would be performed in environments which meet AKC’s requirements. http://www.akc.org/dog-owners/training/akc-community-canine/about/)
First 2 or 3 classes will be held at K9 Obedience Club and the other classes held at community places and/or stores.
What will be covered in this course:
Obedience Skills:
Sit & Down, Stay in small Group with other People and/or Dogs
Ignoring Dropped Food
Greetings from People Holding a Bag
Loose Leash Walking with Left & Right Turns plus Slow & Fast pace.
Passing other Dogs on a Walk
Working around City Distractions (people, objects, sounds)
Polite Manners Going Through Doors, Up Stairs, Steps, or Elevator
Transportation: Entering & Exiting a Vehicle under control
